HERITAGE
At Felt Nowt, we are truly passionate about the North East of England's amazing comedy scene. Our awesome team is dedicated to keeping this treasured art form alive in our community and celebrating its rich history.
There's no denying that comedy has a special place in the hearts of North Easterners. From the region's working-class roots to its post-industrial transformation, comedy has always been a way for locals to find humour in everyday life. And at Felt Nowt, we're committed to sharing this legacy with as many people as possible.
One of the many ways we do this is giving fun talks on the subject at many cool events, such as the Great Market Caper and Washington Arts Centre. These events give us a chance to showcase the impact that this amazing art form has had on our region's culture.
Podcast
Another way in which we do this is through our Jesters of the North podcast. Incollaboration with Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums, the podcast features some of the lesser-known comedians who paved the way for today's hilarious acts. In each episode, we dive into the life and work of a different comedian, like Leonard Barras, Mark Sheridan, Ian Milne, and Wavis O'Shave. You'll hear sketches, songs, stories, and interviews with experts and people who knew the comedians. We aim to uncover the rich history and legacy of these comedians, shedding light on their contributions to the comedy scene and preserving their comedic genius for future generations to enjoy.
